The Precision Medicine Catapult, which is the UK’s innovation centre for precision medicine, has announced that the locations for its regional centres of excellence will be in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and Oxford. Its headquarters will remain in Cambridge. The Precision Medicine Catapult has been part-funded through Innovate UK (which was previously known as the Technology Strategy Board). The local centres will be driven by programmes locally, using the network “to harness the breadth of UK expertise, developing innovative technologies and solutions for broader use across the UK’s healthcare sector”.

Ruth McKernan, the Chief Executive of Innovate UK, said, “Understanding which types of patients will benefit most from treatments requires effective use of diagnostic testing and data-based insights. The Precision Medicine Catapult’s reach to patients for clinical trials purposes will be enhanced through the national network of centres of excellence.”
