A pharmacist has been fined by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)  after he had contravened Section 55 of the Data Protection Act by unlawfully accessing the patient information of his family members without the consent of the data controller. Mr Dhanju, who worked for South West Essex Primary Care Trust, had accessed the records while acting as a sessional pharmacist with responsibility for handling medication reviews for patients in local residential care homes with dementia and other mental health issues. He was ordered to pay over £1,000 for the incident.
